2008 was a successful year for many of the US credit unions.
Credit unions, such as Navy Federal, appeared to gain in exposure and popularity during 2008. This was mainly due to the adverse reaction against banks and bankers that arose from the sub-prime crisis. Credit unions were once again viewed by many consumers as a safe pair of hands.
Only time will tell if this proves to be a correct view, but it is certainly one which is also held by many in the media. I wonder how credit unions will be viewed at the end of 2009, it will be interesting to find out.
