With the large movements in many currencies over the past year there are opportunities for investors to consider overseas investment opportunities.
There are some views that the devaluation of the British Sterling has been too severe and that in the long-term it will regain some strength against the US Dollar. As with all currency data there are also arguments against this. It does however highlight both the importance of understanding exchange rate risk and the fact that there may be opportunities for investors to acquire overseas stocks and shares at good value. For example in this case if one believes that British Sterling is undervalued versus the US Dollar, a US investor may wish to explore British priced stocks since they may offer an investment opportunity.
This is a high risk strategy similar to the high risks experienced in trading in currencies.
