History of VyStar Credit Union
VyStar Credit Union was founded in 1952, but at the time it was known as the Jax Navy Federal Credit Union. VyStar was originally intended to serve the civil and military employees of the Naval Air Station at Jacksonville as well as their families. From its humble beginnings of 1,100 members and just over $28,000 in assets, VyStar has grown to the point where it services more than 350,000 people nationwide.
Jax Navy Federal provided financial solutions for working class men and women. At a time when credit lines were hard to get, and financing for things like homes and automobiles seemed impossible, Jax Navy Federal Credit Union came through and offered credit to those who sorely needed it.
Nowadays with more than 900 employees working for VyStar, it can be seen as a credit union organization with a long history of smooth running and compassionate service for its members.
VyStar and Member Eligibility
If you live or work in Volusia, St. Johns Union, Putnam, Nassau, Marion, Levy, Gilchrist, Flagler, Duval, Columbia, Clay, Bradford, Baker and Alachua counties you will beeligible to apply for membership. Once accepted, you will subsequently be able to take advantage of VyStar’s financial services.
Like most credit unions, VyStar’s members retain the right to remain a part of the VCU membership roster throughout their lives. So even if you move out of a qualifying area you can remain a member of VyStar. This will also encompass people who are related by blood, marriage or adoption to the people who live and work in this area.
